Automating AdWords is now Shabba!

Posted 1 year ago

Happy Friday!
I wanted to belatedly announce the name change to + discuss the topic a little bit.

I started AutomatingAdWords as a blog around 7 years ago. After some of the scripts gained in popularity and people started asking for custom scripts & tools it became an agency. We’ve been working on Ad Tech solutions ever since and it’s been a lot of fun.

We’ve recently started a script subscription service (thanks to those who have signed up) and aim to keep adding scripts and tools.

So, why the name change?

As I mentioned, this was supposed to be a blog. I initially chose AutomatingAdWords thinking it would get me some SEO juice. I’m no SEO-expert but it seemed to do the trick at the time.

However, it was overly literal, boring and penned me into a corner (what about Bing, etc.!?). It also didn’t look good on client invoices.

Picking a new one

Choosing a new name was tough! I had some boxes I wanted to tick:

- Good domain name (naturally)

- Short and pronounceable

- Memorable

- Flexible - don’t peg me into a Google Ads corner, for example. You never know what the future might hold!

- It needed to be unique in the industry

The domain name is the hardest part. Bots buy up domain names like facebook boomers buy conspiracy theories and I wanted .com or .io ideally. That left around 12 options.

Honestly, I’m not sure if it’s the best fit in the world for an AdTech agency. Personally (and anyone from the North of England will relate) I think of a shite Friday-night DJ at a local pub. Shabba!

In the end though, fuck it. I like the idea of having a bit of fun with the name - I’d rather “Shabba” than something sensible like Veritox AdTech Solutions. Say what you want about Shabba, but it doesn’t sound like you need to take it twice a day.
